The Big Picture Read

The Big Picture Read is designed for writers with a complete story, whether it’s a first draft or a revised manuscript.

This service is for a read of the entire piece and a full developmental edit.

This service is for manuscripts up to 90,000 words. For manuscripts above that count, there is an additional $200 charge.

Best for writers who:

  • have a complete draft and want an outside read before revising

  • are doubting what revision would actually help

  • have received feedback but don’t know how to incorporate it

  • know the book is close but don’t know what it is missing

What the process looks like

The Big Picture Read is a full development edit focusing on elements of story with revisions in mind. This is not copy or line editing. This is about the big story structure and making sure all the pieces of the puzzle fit before polishing.

We start with a goal-setting call to talk about what you think is working well and what causes frustration. You’ll then submit your manuscript along with a Story Snapshot Evaluation.

Once I complete my review I will supply written feedback and a link to schedule a coaching call.

The 60-minute call is to talk about the feedback, ask questions, and look at next steps to help with continued drafting and revisions.

  • The Story Snapshot Evaluation
    A structured questionnaire that gives context on what you know about your story right now. Completed and submitted with your pages.

  • Goal-Setting Call
    A call to establish your goals for the story, your frustrations, and if there is anything you want me to focus on during my analysis. Held after booking, prior to submitting materials for review. One 30-minute call scheduled before review begins.

  • Full Manuscript Read
    A complete read of your manuscript, focused on structure, pacing, and other story elements. Completed after submission of your manuscript.

  • Inline Comments on the First 20 Pages
    Feedback written directly on the pages looking at how the opening is functioning and how they set up the rest of the book. Delivered within 20 business days of receiving your pages.

  • Editorial Letter
    A big-picture letter that looks the manuscript as a whole and comparing it with the what is provided in the Story Snapshot Evaluation. The letter includes Actionable Next Steps for continued drafting or revision. Delivered within 20 business days of receiving your pages.

  • One Coaching Call
    A dedicated call to talk through the feedback and ask questions. One 60-minute call scheduled after receiving feedback.

  • Audio Recording
    Delivered within 2 business days.

  • Completion Window
    To be completed within two months of booking.

What this isn’t

  • Line-by-line editing or copyediting

  • A revision plan that tells you exactly what to change

  • Ongoing coaching or long-term support

  • An evaluation of your writing ability

  • A guarantee of agent interest, representation, or publication
