Working Together

This page lays out the different kinds of support available. It is organized by the writing struggle they address.

Does that voice in your head keeping telling you to stick to your day job and throw your pages in the trash?

I got you.

The Toe Dip offers support to writers drowning in uncertainty without the hefty price tag.

I’m not sure what my story is about.

  • The Struggle

Stories are born from ideas, but sometimes it can be frustrating trying to take a small spark and turn it into an full-length book. Writers find themselves struggling to make decisions because they aren’t allowing room for exploration.

Books, a lit candle, a feather quill in a vase, and a window with raindrops on the glass on a wooden surface.
  • Story Focus Session

A working session for writers who want to brainstorm an idea before making decisions about pages, structure, or direction.

A hand holding a circular camera lens filter, which shows a pinkish-purple sky with clouds, a body of water, and an industrial dock with cranes and structures.
  • Idea to Book

This is a guided process for writers who want to map out the whole story before they begin writing the first draft of their manuscript.

I start strong then lose momentum.

  • The Struggle

A strong start should keep a writer’s confidence high. It makes stalling out in the middle feel like running head first into a brick wall. Most writers don’t get here on purpose. They just let their well laid plans go sideways.

A large collection of aged, worn books and magazines stacked on shelves.
  • Understanding the Story

A deep dive into the first 20 pages of the story, what they establish, and how they set up what comes next.

  • The Middle Reset

A way to step back and look at the middle as part of the story, and if it holds up under the weight of the story.

Open notebook with handwritten quote on a wooden surface, against a plain wall.

I know what I want to write, but I can’t write the scene.

  • The Struggle

Unfortunately, seeing the scene and writing the scene are two different things. The disappointment it can cause will throw event the best writer off their game. Getting words on the page doesn’t mean they are the right words, and muscling through doesn’t change it.

Cluttered wooden desk with colorful sticky notes, crumpled paper, markers, a green glue stick, a cup labeled 'BONGO' with a spoon inside, a black headphone, and a laptop in the background.
  • The Stuck Scene

A look at a single scene anywhere in the book, examining the beginning, middle, and end and how they relate to the moments before and after

A gray door with a sign reading "THIS DOOR BLOCKED" painted on it, surrounded by white brick walls.
  • The Book End

An Analysis of the final chapters compared to the opening scenes, this examines the initial setup and ending resolution for answers and character changes

Two rocks on gravel ground with the words 'THE END' painted in white on them.

The book is close, but I can’t tell what it needs.

  • The Struggle

Finishing the book is a major milestone. Whether it is the first draft or heading toward a final polish, it can be hard to know if everything is really done or it it needs a little something extra.

Messy desk with colorful crumpled papers, markers, sticky notes, a laptop, a coffee mug labeled 'BONGO', and notebooks.
  • The Big Picture Read

A cover-to-cover read of the entire manuscript looking at story structure and character arcs

Snow-capped mountain peak with leafless trees in the foreground, cloudy sky.
  • The Pitch Fatigue Plan

An examination of the readiness of a manuscript, and how it is being talked about to agents in the query letter and synopsis
